If you were wondering what was going on at Mama HQ, we understand. We were too! We decided to collar John W and ask him for the lowdown. It turned into a bit of an interview, so we thought we’d publish the whole thing here. Enjoy!

MW: Hi John! How’s things?

JW: Good thanks! Glad to be back in rehearsals after our break.

MW: Yes that was because John Comish‘s son was injured in Australia?

JW: Yes he suffered a life threatening injury a week before our planned shows in Holland. John was told to get himself and his family over there as soon as possible and of course that always comes before anything else. John was out there for three months and thankfully his son survived, which of course was a huge relief to us all. The venues were superb and as they were the first shows we had cancelled with them they fully understood the reasons why. View full article »

Buy tickets to see Mama at The Trades, Rotherham. Saturday 6th December 2014!Mama, the UK’s all era Genesis tribute band will be performing their final show of 2014 at The Trades in Rotherham!

Seems we managed to con JW into writing us a new website update because it’s been so long since we last updated it! Take it away JW!

The final show of 2014 is upon us. Thanks to all who came to The Met in Bury for making that a truly memorable night for the band. This weekend we are at The Trades in Rotherham. Tickets are selling well and the venue have advised us that they do tend to get a lot of people wishing to pay on the door on the night of the show so please get there early if you are thinking of attending. Better still, book your tickets in advance right now! You can book tickets on the WeGotTickets website.

Roll on 2015!

Looking forward to 2015, it looks like a great year for Genesis fans with Mike & The Mechanics touring and now Steve Hackett has announced his 2015 tour. Full details of these tours can be found on the Mike & The Mechanics website along with the Steve Hackett website. For our part, 2014 has been a great year for the band and 2015 looks like being an even better one with return shows booked at The Citadel (St. Helens), The Met (Bury), Theatre On The Steps (Bridgnorth), The Cavern (Liverpool) and many more venues. Also we are spreading our wings with some shows in Essex, Sussex, Scotland and a new Newcastle venture. We have some new Genesis songs in the pipeline which we know you are going to love so keep an eye on the site. A live CD and our long awaited DVD / Blu-ray Disc will be released next year too.

New guitarist? Old guitarist?

Some news we can announce is that Mark has decided he loves playing Genesis music so much he is unable to tear himself away from the band so he will be staying with us for 2015. We are thrilled at this news.

We know that the reason you guys enjoy what we do is that you are Genesis fans first and foremost and that always helps when the hours are long and we get home at 4:00am after a show. We are fans playing for fans and the response you all give us, not just by coming to the shows but by the many messages on our Facebook page and support in Genesis forums makes it all worth while. Thanks to you guys for allowing us to continue.

A very Perry thank you!

Last but not least we wanted to say another thank you to our ex-bassist Dave Perry for all that he did for us during his time with the band. Thanks matey!

Happy Christmas and all the very best for 2015 from all of us here at Mama HQ!

Mama Seeks Guitarist!

Marko - Guitars, Mama Genesis TributeMama, the UK’s all era Genesis tribute band seeks new guitarist!

Thanks to everyone who came to see us on the main stage at Tribfest 2014. Also thanks to everyone for making the trip up to Newcastle for our last show. Both shows were great by our reckoning and we hope you all enjoyed our take on Genesis. We’ll have some photos from Tribfest 2014 to show you soon. In the meantime, we have news….

Mama Needs You!

Today we a saddened to announce that our friend and Mama guitarist Marko has had to give notice that he is to leave the band after our show at The Met in Bury, November. Like all of us Marko loves the music of Genesis and loves his involvement with all things Mama, but has struggled for some time to dedicate the amount of time required to our project. As he says himself:

“I can echo Dave Perry’s words in saying that Mama is the best band I’ve ever been in and am ever likely to be in. People ask me if I struggle with the fact that I live over 250 miles away from the bands’ base in the North West and the honest answer has always been that the driving rarely bothers me at all. It’s more than worth it to be involved with such great music and such an amazing group of talented people, people who have become my best friends in the world over the past few years.”

“But for me there’s always been a ‘double whammy’ of large distances to travel and longer hours away from home than the rest of the band. Most of my income comes from being self employed as a photographer and this means working when the work’s available, not just Monday to Friday. This has often meant having to refuse photography work when it clashed with a gig.”

“We earn a little money from the band but not enough to match what I lose from missing photographic / employed work and with a young family to support, it’s time to focus on this. I will certainly ‘dep’ for the new guy occasionally if asked and will be straight back again if I ever win the lottery! I think whoever gets the position of the new guitarist will be one of the luckiest guys (or girls!) on the tribute scene. You’ll join a group of people driven to musical perfection, who also happen to be genuinely fond of each other. That’s a rare thing on the music scene in my experience.”

“PLEASE support Mama! Tell your friends. Attend as many concerts as you can. DONT LOSE THE EXPERIENCE OF KEEPING THE BEST PLAYED GENESIS MUSIC ‘LIVE’. And finally, thanks to EVERYONE…. It’s been amazing! 🙂

If you would like to apply for the role of guitarist with Mama, please drop us an email to guitarist@mama-genesis.co.uk giving us a bit of detail about yourself, your equipment, your interest in Genesis and anything else you’d like to mention. We are looking for North West based musicians that are passionate about performing the music of Genesis live. Also, we would like to see any YouTube clips or listen to audio you might have posted online, so links would be appreciated. We are hoping to fill the role before the end of 2014 so whilst we don’t have an official closing date for applications, you do need to get your skates on. There’s lots of Genesis music to learn!  🙂

If you would like to wish Marko well, feel free to post your comments below. He’s sure to read them. If you would like to know more about Marko’s photography, check out the MkCo Photo Design website.

The Citadel, St. Helens – Friday 26th July!

Mama, the UK’s all era Genesis tribute band gears up for The Citadel, St. Helens

So what will you be doing on Friday 26th July 2013? We know what we will be doing! Starting at around 3.00pm we will be setting up for another monster Genesis party, this time at The Citadel in St. Helens. This is a fairly local gig for us so we are looking forward to a good turn out. Fancy it?

Buy tickets from The Citadel to secure entry to this show. You can contact the box office on 01744 735 436. Alternatively, buy your tickets online on The Citadel Website. Never seen Mama before and wondering what it’s like to see a Genesis tribute band in action? Then check out the many videos we have on our Vimeo and YouTube channels and have a listen to our most recent recording. This is Tonight Tonight Tonight / Invisible Touch, recorded live from our front of house desk at The Winding Wheel, Chesterfield:

Why not tell us what you think of our recordings and videos by posting a comment below or joining the conversation on our Facebook Page? We’d love to hear from you.

MarkCo, guitarist with Mama has been busy!

This recording was previously posted on our exclusive content page but we’ve brought it out onto a public page to make room for some other content that’s coming up for our newsletter subscribers on the exclusives page. MarkCo informed the band he’s been working on some Genesis stuff with his acoustic guitar. We thought we’d share it here. Hope you enjoy it!

People ask us how they can help spread the word about Genesis, Genesis tribute bands and Mama in particular. We have one simple answer for you. Sign up to our email newsletter in the top right hand corner of every page of this website. How does this help us? Well, it massively reduces our costs when it comes to advertising our shows to you, the Genesis fans. This in turn allows us to spend the savings we make on new equipment, new lights and sound gear, better features for our website and above all allows us to branch out to different areas to put shows on. Our show is massively expensive to put into a venue. It needs ten of us to set it up and pull it down when the curtain closes. To bring Genesis to you requires a lot of hard work, time and money so any way we can save money makes the show that bit better. So you know what to do…. sign up to our email newsletter! We won’t spam you. We only ever send you an odd email when we have something exciting to tell you and we certainly won’t sell your details to some random email marketing company. So what’s to lose?  🙂

See you in St. Helens!

Mama Lineup Change Announcement

It is with regret we announce that Chris O’Connell has decided to leave Mama. Chris wishes to devote more time to his own music which would be very hard to do at the same time as keeping on top of all the material required for Mama. Needless to say, all of us wish Chris well in this new endeavour. Thanks Chris for being in at the start of Mama and helping to get us on the road so to speak.

Fortunately for us, his replacement is already within our ranks. Mark Comish will take over the remaining gigs for this year. If you saw Mark either at The Box in Crewe, Tribfest or The Moses Gate earlier this year, you will realise how lucky we are to have such a great guitar player in our ranks. We are looking for a dep to work alongside Mark in his role as guitarist for Mama and we have already had considerable interest.

If you are interested in applying for the dep role within the band, please send us your details through the Mama website contact page.
