Mama Genesis at The Floral Pavilion New BrightonMama will be performing two nights at The Floral Pavilion this weekend – Friday 3rd & Saturday 4th March 2017!

The weekend draws near… Two shows beckon… A new venue for Mama… The start of the next five years of the bands history…

Then JW stepped in and wrote a new post for us to publish right here, right now. So all that deep and meaningful stuff we had lined up to publish got thrown out of the proverbial window and left in the slush that currently adorns the grass in the front garden. Ooops!

Take it away JW!

Five years. 1,825 days. 43,800 hours. 2,628,000 minutes. 31,536,000 seconds. In other words, a LONG time!

We started planning this band back in 2011 and our first show was on the Wirral at Pacific Road on 30th March 2012. Over 100 shows later we return to the Wirral for two nights of Genesis and solo songs at The Blue Room, Floral Pavilion, New Brighton this Friday and Saturday. The emphasis on Friday is on Genesis songs with the whole of the “Duke Suite” being performed. Saturday sees us concentrating on Genesis hits and solo hits from Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel and Mike & The Mechanics. View full article »

Mama at Thornton Little TheatreThornton-Cleveleys & Kinross

Today we’ve got a website update written by our bass player, Dave. He stepped up with some thoughts on his time with Mama and our recent news about the changes we are making within the band. But first, a quick reminder about our upcoming shows.

On Saturday 3rd September 2016 the band will be performing their 2016 tour show at Thornton Little Theatre in Thornton-Cleveleys. This show always sells well and we have a great time performing Genesis music for you. If you want tickets to the show, be sure to book them online at our EventBrite booking page (with no booking fees!).

If you’re in Scotland, you’re probably aware that we always make it to The Green Hotel in Kinross every year for what has (for us) become a band social event because it involves two shows back to back, far away from home, in a great hotel, with a great crowd of like minded Genesis fans. Needless to say, we think going to Kinross is great! We probably drink too much. We certainly eat too much and it’s impossible to play too much Genesis for you. What more could we want?

This year we are doing two shows on Friday 16th September and Saturday 17th September. Tickets have been on sale for a while and are selling better than usual. So again, if you’re thinking of coming down to one or both nights (two different shows incidentally) then consider booking in advance by heading over to the Mudell Music website. View full article »

Mama Seeks Guitarist!

Marko - Guitars, Mama Genesis TributeMama, the UK’s all era Genesis tribute band seeks new guitarist!

Thanks to everyone who came to see us on the main stage at Tribfest 2014. Also thanks to everyone for making the trip up to Newcastle for our last show. Both shows were great by our reckoning and we hope you all enjoyed our take on Genesis. We’ll have some photos from Tribfest 2014 to show you soon. In the meantime, we have news….

Mama Needs You!

Today we a saddened to announce that our friend and Mama guitarist Marko has had to give notice that he is to leave the band after our show at The Met in Bury, November. Like all of us Marko loves the music of Genesis and loves his involvement with all things Mama, but has struggled for some time to dedicate the amount of time required to our project. As he says himself:

“I can echo Dave Perry’s words in saying that Mama is the best band I’ve ever been in and am ever likely to be in. People ask me if I struggle with the fact that I live over 250 miles away from the bands’ base in the North West and the honest answer has always been that the driving rarely bothers me at all. It’s more than worth it to be involved with such great music and such an amazing group of talented people, people who have become my best friends in the world over the past few years.”

“But for me there’s always been a ‘double whammy’ of large distances to travel and longer hours away from home than the rest of the band. Most of my income comes from being self employed as a photographer and this means working when the work’s available, not just Monday to Friday. This has often meant having to refuse photography work when it clashed with a gig.”

“We earn a little money from the band but not enough to match what I lose from missing photographic / employed work and with a young family to support, it’s time to focus on this. I will certainly ‘dep’ for the new guy occasionally if asked and will be straight back again if I ever win the lottery! I think whoever gets the position of the new guitarist will be one of the luckiest guys (or girls!) on the tribute scene. You’ll join a group of people driven to musical perfection, who also happen to be genuinely fond of each other. That’s a rare thing on the music scene in my experience.”

“PLEASE support Mama! Tell your friends. Attend as many concerts as you can. DONT LOSE THE EXPERIENCE OF KEEPING THE BEST PLAYED GENESIS MUSIC ‘LIVE’. And finally, thanks to EVERYONE…. It’s been amazing! 🙂

If you would like to apply for the role of guitarist with Mama, please drop us an email to guitarist@mama-genesis.co.uk giving us a bit of detail about yourself, your equipment, your interest in Genesis and anything else you’d like to mention. We are looking for North West based musicians that are passionate about performing the music of Genesis live. Also, we would like to see any YouTube clips or listen to audio you might have posted online, so links would be appreciated. We are hoping to fill the role before the end of 2014 so whilst we don’t have an official closing date for applications, you do need to get your skates on. There’s lots of Genesis music to learn!  🙂

If you would like to wish Marko well, feel free to post your comments below. He’s sure to read them. If you would like to know more about Marko’s photography, check out the MkCo Photo Design website.

Mama Lineup Change Announcement

It is with regret we announce that Chris O’Connell has decided to leave Mama. Chris wishes to devote more time to his own music which would be very hard to do at the same time as keeping on top of all the material required for Mama. Needless to say, all of us wish Chris well in this new endeavour. Thanks Chris for being in at the start of Mama and helping to get us on the road so to speak.

Fortunately for us, his replacement is already within our ranks. Mark Comish will take over the remaining gigs for this year. If you saw Mark either at The Box in Crewe, Tribfest or The Moses Gate earlier this year, you will realise how lucky we are to have such a great guitar player in our ranks. We are looking for a dep to work alongside Mark in his role as guitarist for Mama and we have already had considerable interest.

If you are interested in applying for the dep role within the band, please send us your details through the Mama website contact page.
