Mama at The Old Courts WiganMama to perform their 2017 show at The Old Courts in Wigan

It’s time to start promoting the next show and to do just that, we have some videos from our previous show at The Picturedrome in Holmfirth. We had a great time at that one!

So, here’s the date for your diary; Saturday 21st October 2017

If you want tickets for the show, you can buy them from Eventbrite here: www.eventbrite.co.uk

Charity walk with Jules

As you will no doubt be aware (if you attended our Holmfirth show), Jules signed up to do a charity walk in Chester over the weekend just gone. She did a bit of a collection at Holmfirth and the audience very generously donated £110.00 to The Brain Tumour Charity. Jules had this to say:

“Yesterday I took part in the Twilight Walk in Chester in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity in memory of Dale Bellis, who was a very close friend of all involved in Mama and friend of many who came to not only Mama gigs but other Genesis tributes as well. The audience at our Holmfirth gig on Friday very kindly donated £110, which I am very grateful for. As a group, Dale’s family and friends have raised around £2500.00. Thanks to everyone who supported us.”

So there you have it. Good news for our next gig, our charity efforts and now…. more good news with three videos from our recent show. First up is Ripples, which we closed the first half of the show with. There’s a bit of patter about the charity at the beginning too. After that, we have Follow You Follow Me, which seems appropriate, given the charity walk. Finally, we have Home By The Sea (Part 1). We realised this particular song hasn’t been featured much on our website, so we thought we’d post it.

Hope you enjoy the videos! Don’t forget to book your tickets for The Old Courts, Wigan!  🙂

NEXT SHOW: Brookside Theatre, Romford

Dave Mama Website BioAn evening of Genesis music with Mama, comes to The Brookside Theatre, Romford!

Hello all! It’s Sunday night which means we’ve just about recovered from our show at The Cavern this weekend. What a show it was! We broke records with a sellout crowd which along with our first show of 2015 in Chester the week before, gives us a great start to 2015. Thanks to everyone who came to see us at these shows. Spending your hard earned money on our show is really appreciated and we hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did!

So what’s next for Mama? Well, we will be visiting Essex. Specifically, on Saturday 21st February, we’ll be at The Brookside Theatre in Romford. This is a first visit to the venue for us, so we are hoping to capitalise on our recent numbers and pull a good crowd, so that we can visit again in 2016. If you’re in the area, tell us you already got your tickets?

Quiet Man Dave Speaks Out!

We thought he would quietly sit back and be content playing his bass but oh no, after Chester and Liverpool, he’s dying to have his say on our website! So without further ado, I’ll hand you over. This is bass man Jones, telling it his way:

An Evening of Genesis Music with MamaHello everyone!

It’s been almost six months since I joined the band and I have had such a fantastic time. From my first gig in Blackburn I have been knocked out by the reaction from the audience to our performances. This, combined with selling out our first two shows of 2015, shows that there is a huge desire out there for quality live music and there is no doubt that the music of Genesis is of the very highest quality.

I am often asked which is my favourite piece to play live? The honest answer is that it changes with every gig. From the Morse code-like bass line of Land of Confusion to the hypnotic riff of Carpet Crawlers, from the complex intricate patterns of In The Cage to the laid back groove of Misunderstanding – it’s all good stuff!

Other questions I have been asked include….

Why do you play the bass with your thumb? Over the years I have used a plectrum, I have used my fingers and more recently my thumb, like Sting who favoured that technique. I tend to vary the way I play depending on which Genesis song it is and how bad the blister is on my thumb!

Which strings do you use? Roundwound Rotosound longscale steel bass strings – worth every penny.

Four string or five string? I have a five string bass but tend not to use it. I can get all the sounds I need with the four string combined with the bass pedals. But I am on the lookout for a double neck!

Favourite bass players? Too many to list but any list would include Mike Rutherford (obviously!), Chris Squire, Paul McCartney, Geddy Lee, Jaco Pastorius, Scott LaFaro, Stanley Clarke, Carol Kaye, Geezer Butler and James Jamerson.

The band was ecstatic after our Cavern Club gig and now we are looking forward to a trip to The Brookside Theatre, Romford in Essex on Saturday, 21st February. A week later and we are in Bolton at the Roundhouse where we are hoping to introduce even more ‘new’ pieces into our set. If you have been to our Facebook page you will have seen mobile phone footage of our recent rehearsals so you’ll know which songs I am referring to!

Prefer to watch this video on YouTube? Go HERE.

We think our show is of great quality and if the feedback on our Facebook page is anything to go by, so do you! However to make it work, we have to sell as many tickets as possible. This means we need to spread the word as far and as fast as possible, to all Genesis and live music fans. Can I urge you to get in touch if you can help promote the band’s gigs?

I’m really looking forward to all our concerts in 2015 and if you come along to watch please have a word after the show. We enjoying discussing all things Genesis with you. We are fans of the music just as you are and our aim is to keep this music alive.

Best wishes
Dave – the new boy!

That just about wraps up our latest news. We’ve still got some more video to post from our Chester show. Just haven’t yet had chance to sift through it all to look for the best bits. Maybe tomorrow eh? In the meantime, head over to The Brookside Theatre website and grab your tickets for an evening of Genesis music on Saturday 21st February. We’ll do our very best to make it worth your while. 🙂

To kick us off today, we’ve got Ripples, which we didn’t include in our Thornton releases here, here, here and here. Enjoy!

New Video: Mama

Next up, we have Mama. I think this is a band favourite, not just because we took our name from it!

New Video: In The Cage Medley & Afterglow

This one is always a mammoth task to play live and it’s possibly one of the highlights of our show currently. Here’s the full version of In The Cage Medley with Afterglow tagged on the end for good measure.

 New Video: Los Endos

The last video we have for you is Los Endos. I guess today, we are featuring some of the older Genesis material that we perform.

Interview with John W (Vocals)

Mama, the UK’s ‘all era’ Genesis tribute band is delighted to share this interview with our fans and fellow Genesis fans!

Note: Previously available on our Exclusive Content page!

Here is our interview with John Wilkinson, vocalist with Mama of course. We managed to grab him just before he went on stage.

John W - Pacific Road Mama Launch GigMama Website: Hi JW and thanks for agreeing to be interviewed. All okay in JW world?

John Wilkinson: Yeah fine thanks.

MW: So, what made you decide to start a Genesis tribute band?

JW: Well most people will know that John Comish and I were in a very successful Phil Collins and Genesis tribute band called Face Value. When that came to an end we decided to carry on with the Genesis songs but give this new band a more Genesis all era feel. We wanted to move away from the Phil solo material, although we still play In The Air Tonight. We then started rehearsals with James Cooper our drummer and a guitarist and bassist, Chris and Mark, and for the first few gigs that was the line up. Mark Comish, who is John’s brother joined soon after Chris decided to leave the band in June 2012 and we got Dave Perry our bassist in April this year.

MW: I take it you all get on well with each other then?

JW: Yeah I think now we have a line up which I am hopeful will last years. We are all united in trying to make Mama the best Genesis tribute band it can be. Nice to have that sense of team spirit in any band.

MW: So you can see Mama carrying on for years then?

JW: Yeah hope we can last at least as long as Face Value did as we all really love doing this. My enthusiasm for singing Genesis songs will never diminish so I can see myself doing this for as long as I am able to.

MW: What is your favourite song to play live?
