Mama Genesis at The Floral Pavilion New BrightonMama will be performing two nights at The Floral Pavilion this weekend – Friday 3rd & Saturday 4th March 2017!

The weekend draws near… Two shows beckon… A new venue for Mama… The start of the next five years of the bands history…

Then JW stepped in and wrote a new post for us to publish right here, right now. So all that deep and meaningful stuff we had lined up to publish got thrown out of the proverbial window and left in the slush that currently adorns the grass in the front garden. Ooops!

Take it away JW!

Five years. 1,825 days. 43,800 hours. 2,628,000 minutes. 31,536,000 seconds. In other words, a LONG time!

We started planning this band back in 2011 and our first show was on the Wirral at Pacific Road on 30th March 2012. Over 100 shows later we return to the Wirral for two nights of Genesis and solo songs at The Blue Room, Floral Pavilion, New Brighton this Friday and Saturday. The emphasis on Friday is on Genesis songs with the whole of the “Duke Suite” being performed. Saturday sees us concentrating on Genesis hits and solo hits from Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel and Mike & The Mechanics. View full article »

Mama at The Maltings, FarnhamMama to perform their 2016 tour show at The Maltings, Farnham. Plus, a lineup change and some new video from our recent show in Solihull!

Howdo fellow Genesis fanatics! We’ve got a lot to get through today, so let’s get straight in there…. First up, our next show!

You can catch the band a little more South than usual on Saturday 12th November 2016 at The Maltings in Farnham. This show has been on sale for quite a while and tickets are now starting to move quicker, so if you’re coming down, get them in advance.

You can buy tickets for the show from The Maltings website.

James calls time on his Mama duties

It’s sad we know, but James has taken the decision to spend more time with his family and working in his new job, so he’s informed us that he would like us to find a new drummer for the band. We’d like to thank James for his incredible commitment to the band, right from the word go (actually, he committed before Mama was even written down on paper in fact). James will continue to perform with the band until his final show in 2017 at The Cavern. We hope many of you will be joining us at this historic venue to say goodbye and wish him well for the future. DAVE’S TOUR LOG: Trading Boundaries, Sheffield Green

An Evening of Genesis with Mama @ The Village Hall, North FerribyTwo shows coming up after our Summer break!

The first is a new venue near Hull, namely North Ferriby Village Hall where we have been asked to play by a local promoter who saw us at Tribfest last year. Tickets are going well and we are looking forward to seeing some of the folk who supported us at Tribfest over the last three years there. We decided to have a break from Tribfest this year but we will be returning in 2016. See our EventBrite page for tickets.

The second is a welcome return to a great venue on the Flyde coast namely Thornton Little Theatre. We sold the venue out last time and advance ticket sales are up on last year already so please book now to avoid missing out. This is a great venue with a superb atmosphere. Tickets are available on our Thornton EventBrite booking page.

The Brindley Rocks!

Just have to write a few words about the show at The Brindley in Runcorn, which was one of the best venues we have ever appeared at. Great 400 seater which we 3/4 filled. We (and the promoter) were very happy with that for a first time visit. We have already been booked back for two nights in 2016 and one of these will be our new Genesis Hits show. We did preview that show with a version of Sledgehammer which went down a storm. Considering we had only played it once in rehearsal that was quite a result!

People have asked us about the Genesis Hits show so let us clarify what it is and why we doing it. We realised that as we play longer pieces such as the Duke Suite and Home By The Sea, we missed playing some of the shorter songs we used to play. The idea was born to produce a show were we could play a set of more progressive, longer Genesis songs one night and a set of Hits by Genesis, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel and Mike & The Mechanics the next night. We are going to do this in selected venues in 2016 as well as Kinross this year. Some folk will come both nights and some will pick a night that suits them, which is of course fine.

Also we now have not only a CD on our merchandise stall but some jazzy new T-shirts with an exclusive Genesis design by our very own Mark on guitars.

Dave’s Tour Log Episode 5: TRIBUTE WARS

Episode 5: The Empire Strikes First

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away….

Late into the night the hedgehog looked up from the middle of the road to see the pattern of stars in the sky. A roaring sound came from behind it, followed by a woosh as a huge white object flashed across the sky above. It was the last thing the hedgehog saw as it was squashed by the white van. an-evening-of-genesis-at-the-furnace-stoke-on-trent-with-mamaDave’s Tour Log – Issue 2 – Five Go On Tour, May 2nd 2015

Before we get into the bizarre world of Dave’s humour, we thought it wise to tell you something about the real word. Saturday 9th May 2015 will see Mama performing An Evening of Genesis Music, live at Theatre on the Steps in Bridgnorth. You can get tickets from the theatre by calling 01746 766 477 or buy them online on the Theatre on the Steps website. Be warned; as of four hours ago there were only 19 tickets left, so you should probably also consider our show at The Furnace in Stoke, on Friday 5th June 2015. Tickets for The Furnace can be bought from our EventBrite page.

The band would like to pass on a HUGE thanks to the people of Leicester for turning out to see our show on Saturday just gone. Without you, the show simply wouldn’t work. We hope you all enjoyed it, despite our technical gremlins. We’d also like to thank Danny and his team for booking us, making us feel very welcome and generating such a buzz for the show. They certainly proved to us that The Musician is among the very best live music venues in the UK (and we’ve seen a fair few!).

Finally, we’d like to thank Chen and Kal of Scancom for looking after us for the weekend, filling us with a whole months worth of food and then doing it all again the next day, keeping us entertained with family stories, musical banter and hilarious anecdotes about mutual friends. You know Shelley owns Solsbury Hill don’t you?  🙂

And now…. The tour log!

It was lovely day! A Saturday and the sun was shining down. After eight weeks the five were finally getting together again and they all could not wait. Unfortunately there was no room for Poppy the Dog to accompany them. Neither was there room for Big Cat and Little Cat. John W, James and David met first.

“Hello Dave. Hello James,” said John W.

“Hello John. Hello James,” said Dave.

“Hello Dave. Hello John,” said James.

John W and Dave had driven round to pick up James in their van “Betty.” Today they were heading off on an adventure to Leicester. James being the youngest of the bunch was prone to getting excited and today was no exception!

“I am so looking forward to playing again!” said James, jumping up and down. “I can’t wait!” View full article »

Latest Interview With John W!

John Wilkinson - Mama Genesis Tribute BandMama, the UK’s all era Genesis tribute band interviews John W

Well so much has gone on in the past eleven months that we thought it was high time to drag another interview from John W. Here he discusses the change in venues that the band are currently appearing at and the complexities of putting on a Mama show and making a film!

Don’t forget, Saturday night (26th April) the band will be performing at the O2 Academy, Sheffield. You can buy tickets from the O2 Academy website. On with the interview….

Mama Website: Hi John!

John W: Hello there.

MW: So what’s been happening in the time since we last interviewed you?

JW: An awful lot (laughs)! I suppose the first thing to tell you about is the upcoming live DVD / Blu-ray Disc. As most folk know we put on a special free show for the fans who have supported us over the past two years as a sort of thank you to them all. We took the decision to make a DVD of the show and release it, as we keep getting asked at our gigs why we don’t have DVD’s or CD’s for sale.

MW: And why don’t you have DVD’s or CD’s for sale then?

JW: Good question. The main reason is that we wanted to ensure that the standard of playing was up to it and I know that we are now playing these songs better than ever. It is an obvious thing to say but the more you play together as a band the tighter and better you get. Also another thing was that we wanted the lights sorting out before we tried to film a show and thanks to Dave and Jules input, we now have a great light show.

MW: Yeah I remember you saying about that the last time we spoke. Was that a challenge then?

JW: You would have to ask Dave and Jules for that because they put all the work in. No seriously, Dave rigged all the lights, designed the way it would look and then programmed the scenes for each song into the computer. Jules then had to learn all about setting up lights at shows and how to work the computer at shows. Both of them have done superbly well in my opinion.
