Let us tell you about our friend Dale Bellis

Dale was a passionate Genesis and Liverpool Football Club supporter who sadly passed away on the 2nd May 2017 after months bravely battling a brain tumor. He leaves behind a family which includes his wife Gill. Our thoughts are with her at this sad time.

From Face Value…

John W first met Dale at a Face Value gig not long after the 2001 Genesis fan convention. His first words to John W were, “you were sh1t at Guildford, so you better be worth it now!” and then he gave John that grin. That infectious Dale grin that made you instantly know he was taking the pi$$. He became a regular at FV shows, always singing his heart out and always encouraging the band to new heights with his enthusiastic shouts of “Stagnation” or “In The Bloody Cage” – two songs he knew we didn’t play. But that was Dale for you. Always joking, always trying to bring out the best in folk.

He soon became a friend and was a supporter of not only Mama, but also ReGenesis, G2 and Stillmarillion. He had a zero tolerance of the petty stuff that went on sometimes but always concentrated on the music first and foremost. As he used to say, “None of you own this music so don’t get all defensive about it!” When Face Value played their last show at The Box in Crewe, John W and John C played an impromptu version of Fading Lights for him as he had just lost his mother at that time. We remember him bursting into the dressing room after that final show and hugging us all.

…To Mama

When Mama started he was delighted that John W wasn’t ready to hang up his microphone and John C his keyboards and of course became a regular at Mama shows. We knew when we had done well when he told us (frequently I may add), “That was the best performance of any tribute band I have ever seen… At this venue… Tonight!” View full article »

Interview with a Genesis tribute band

Hi folks!

On the back of our most recent show at Huntingdon Hall, Worcester, we were asked to do a radio interview back stage for a local radio station. The station kindly shared the audio with us, so we can present it here on our website. Hope you enjoy listening to it!

In other news, this weekend (Saturday 8th April 2017) we were asked by Bilton Working Mens Club to come and perform our show at their venue, so we decided that’s exactly what we are going to do. You can get tickets for the show, from the venue. View full article »

The Return of Dave’s Tour Log!

Dave Jones (bass) at The Met in BuryAll the latest from Dave, our professor of bass!

Hurrah I hear you cry! It’s the return of the Mama Tour Log! Well there has been so much going on I (Dave) thought I would bring you up to date.

We started the year still searching for a replacement for James, on the face of it an impossible task – how do you replace someone who is irreplaceable? But we finally found our man and Tim Rothwell, former drummer with SeYeS, is the chosen one. Following that decision we started rehearsals to get Tim ready for his first concert which is going to be on 1st April – yes we have a sense of humour!

Meanwhile our 2017 ‘Tour’ kicked off with a return to one of our favourite venues, The Forum Theatre in Chester, which was sold out – a great start. Considering all five of us had not been together since November, we played some excellent stuff.

Next up we returned to The Cavern. This was a special show for the band because for John W, John C and James it was their 100th show as Mama. It was a great night with over 300 in the crowd and once again we played really well.

Rehearsals ongoing

Rehearsals with Tim continued and we played our third show at Oswestry, The Lion Quays. Another good show even though John W was struggling slightly with his voice. Yet again the feedback was very positive. View full article »

Mama Genesis at The Floral Pavilion New BrightonMama will be performing two nights at The Floral Pavilion this weekend – Friday 3rd & Saturday 4th March 2017!

The weekend draws near… Two shows beckon… A new venue for Mama… The start of the next five years of the bands history…

Then JW stepped in and wrote a new post for us to publish right here, right now. So all that deep and meaningful stuff we had lined up to publish got thrown out of the proverbial window and left in the slush that currently adorns the grass in the front garden. Ooops!

Take it away JW!

Five years. 1,825 days. 43,800 hours. 2,628,000 minutes. 31,536,000 seconds. In other words, a LONG time!

We started planning this band back in 2011 and our first show was on the Wirral at Pacific Road on 30th March 2012. Over 100 shows later we return to the Wirral for two nights of Genesis and solo songs at The Blue Room, Floral Pavilion, New Brighton this Friday and Saturday. The emphasis on Friday is on Genesis songs with the whole of the “Duke Suite” being performed. Saturday sees us concentrating on Genesis hits and solo hits from Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel and Mike & The Mechanics. View full article »

Mama at The Lion Quays Hotel

Mama Genesis at The Lion Quays Hotel OswestryMama to perform their 2017 tour show at The Lion Quays Hotel & Spa, Oswestry!

Well 2017 got off to a cracking start with two very well attended shows in Chester and Liverpool. We had a fantastic time performing for you at both The Forum Theatre and The Cavern and we are in the process of booking a show back in Chester for 2018. The Cavern has already booked us for 2018 and details are now on our shows page.

Thanks to everyone who made the trip out to see us both in Chester and Liverpool on what turned out to be very cold nights! We do appreciate it very much.

On with this weeks news….

Tim Rothwell drummer with Mama GenesisA New Drummer

We are thrilled to announce that we have found the replacement for James on the drum stool. Step forward Tim Rothwell (ex “SeYes” drummer). Tim really impressed us at auditions and we offered him the role almost at once. Thankfully he said yes and his first show is planned for the first night at New Brighton Floral Hall on Friday 3rd March 2017.

James will retake the drum stool for the “hits” set on Saturday 4th March 2017 however, which will be his final planned show with Mama. Of course it goes without saying that we wish James all the very best for the future. Mama wouldn’t have been the success it is without him. It is highly likely he may decide to join us for some double drum madness in the future….

The Lion Quays Return!

The next show for us is this Saturday (4th February 2017) at The Lion Quays Hotel & Spa complex in Oswestry. We hope you can join us there for what promises to be a fairly unique show. Why? Well, we plan on having a bit of an unplanned set list. Planning the unplanned, you might say. There’ll be chance for the audience to have their say with requests and we may or may not throw in some tracks we haven’t performed for a while. View full article »
