The first show was at the Pacific Road Arts Centre in Birkenhead on Friday 23rd March 2012 and by sheer coincidence the band are back on the Wirral to celebrate their five year anniversary in March 2017. Two performances are lined up at the Floral Hall in New Brighton on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th March.
That big number…. 100!
A five year anniversary is one thing but chalking up 100 shows is something else. This Friday (27th Jan) the band will be back in Liverpool at one of their all time favourite venues, The Cavern, and this concert will be Mama’s 100th show! Being the first tribute band to sell out The Cavern is something special so returning there to celebrate 100 gigs is perfect timing.
The line-up may have evolved since that first gig in Birkenhead but for John W, John C and James, this really is 100 shows. Another evolution is round the corner as James is soon stepping down from the drum stool but he will be playing at the Cavern this Friday and returning for one of the two evenings in March. Plus, as if that wasn’t enough, the band will be playing overseas for the first time with two dates in Holland coming up in June. View full article »
Bass player with Mama, Dave Jones, gives casts his mind back to that very first Genesis LP purchase.
Last chance to get your tickets to see the band live this weekend (30th April 2016 @ The Musician in Leicester)! You can get tickets from the venue website, priced £11.00.
If you’re not around the Leicester area this weekend or indeed any other weekend, maybe you’re in Shropshire? Mama will be performing two shows next weekend (Friday 6th May & Saturday 7th May) at Theatre on the Steps in Bridgnorth. The first night will be an all out Genesis-fest. The second night will feature hits of Collins, Gabriel, Hackett and Mike & the Mechanics. So remember, that’s arguably two completely different shows! Want tickets? Grab them from the venue website.
And now for today’s feature…. Remember your first Genesis album? Our Dave does!
It’s 1973 and I am sixteen years old. I am the bass player in a cabaret band called Chuck and the Young Ones. The group consists of a singer (Chuck – not his real name!) and four lads aged 13 (lead guitar), 14 (rhythm guitar), 16 (drummer) and 16 (me!). At each gig, we take to the stage first and play two instrumentals by The Shadows, then Chuck comes on and we play classic pop songs and current chart favourites. We usually play on Fridays and Saturdays in clubs around the North West. View full article »
Mama, the UK Genesis tribute show, today publishes four new videos taken from their recent Solihull Arts Centre show!
We started writing some huge, long winded website update to publish today, but after numerous edits, re-writes and deletions, we decided that the content actually speaks for itself. So we are going to let it do just that!
Before we get started, we’d just like to mention our next two shows:
Friday 27th November 2015: The Station Tavern, Lytham (This is a free show, meaning no tickets! Just turn up, buy ale, sit back, enjoy! It will feature our new “hits” set list).
Saturday 28th November 2015: The Met, Bury (Back to reality, this is a ticketed show. Get your tickets from The Met website).
Solihull Arts Centre Videos
And now, onto the main content we have for you today. We had a single camera running at Solihull Arts Centre, along with our usual desk and ambience audio recorders. The result is, rather better than we can normally get using this method, so we thought we’d share. No words… just video! Enjoy. 🙂
Don’t forget to crank it up to full HD if you have a fast internet connection!
Dave’s Tour Log – Issue 3 – Mama Mighty Heroes, May 9th 2015
It’s time for another rather unique rambling from our bass player Dave (or should we call him Red Lantern?). But before we get to that, we’d like to quickly mention our next show.
Saturday 20th June sees us perform at Trading Boundaries, which is somewhere down south (Sheffield Green). It’s the only show that’s anywhere near the south in fact, for the next few months. So if you’re in the area, you need to grab some tickets now. To book, hit the Trading Boundaries website. Tickets are priced at £15.00 & £45.00. Why the steep price you ask? Well we believe that there are two ticket prices – one for a sit down meal and the other just for the show. We know that lots of meal tickets have gone already. In fact, we’re not rightly sure if there are any left. But there are definitely some standing tickets up for sale, so don’t delay.
This is our first venture to this fine venue and we’re really hoping to make a big impact and have a great night with as many fellow Genesis fans as possible. Hope to see you there!
As always, you can find all our latest shows on our gig page. Don’t forget to join our email newsletter on the right hand side so we can let you know when we’re in your area.
And so it was that as the sun rose in the eastern sky, to the west a huge symbol emblazoned the letter M onto a white cloud. The Mama signal was a call to arms to five musical super heroes and their side-kicks. Their leader, John W, awoke to the sound of the Mama alarm (clock) ringing in his ears. He picked up his com device (mobile phone) and sent the emergency code text to the members of the team. He had received a request for the team to make haste to Bridgnorth to help the locals in their fight against the forces of Muzak. It was decided that a scouting party would be sent in advance to make a reconnaissance of the area. View full article »
Mama, to perform An Evening of Genesis Music at The Musician, Leicester!
Hello…. Remember us?
Well after quite a long break from shows we are back with a bang at a new venue for us, namely The Musician in Leicester. Tickets have already gone really well for this show and according to the promoter we have the best advance sales for May. We will be playing the famous “Duke Suite” at this and indeed our next show after The Musician, which is at our old haunt The Theatre On The Steps in Bridgnorth. That venue has also reported great advance ticket sales which are up on last time and don’t forget we sold that venue out last year. Great to see such interest in keeping Genesis music alive by the tribute bands who perform it. We just need a team of Sherpa’s to help us up the dreaded 120 steps at Bridgnorth… Any offers?
Legends of Rock 2016
We had a great time at 2015 Legends Of Rock Festival back in March and are proud to announce that due to the reaction of the crowd there we have once again been invited back for 2016. More details as soon as we have them.
You can also watch this video on YouTube if you prefer.
Genesis, ex members, hits & other ditties
We have started work on another element of our show to hopefully delight Genesis fans, which means Mama are currently learning some of the ex-Genesis members solo hits such as In The Air Tonight, Sledgehammer, All I Need Is A Miracle, The Living Years, Big Time and many others to create a “Genesis hits” set. We will premier this set at our second night in Kinross after we play a totally “Prog Genesis” set the night before. We are also learning a brand new song for this as well as re-introducing a couple of songs we have stopped playing, so lots of rehearsals at this moment in time. Lets us know what “hits” you think we could incorporate in the comments section below or on our Facebook page.
The DVD & Live CD
We keep getting asked about the CD and DVD release we promised last year. Work is still ongoing. We basically want to get it right for when you hand over your hard earned cash for it which hopefully explains the delay. Watch this space!
Simply outstanding night at the Rose Club. …..Thank you so very much for a night to remember. Venue is great and the quality of the music and performances was sensational. Hope this is the first of many Prog Rock celebrations in Hindley.
