Phil Collins Reissues Take A Look At Me NowCommences with the November 6th release of extended and remastered versions of Face Value and Both Sides

Phil Collins revisits a career that can boast over 100 million sales and numerous worldwide #1 albums with the new ‘Take A Look At Me Now’ retrospective reissue campaign in which all eight of his albums will be issued as extended and remastered editions. The campaign commences with the November 6th release of his 1981 debut album ‘Face Value’ and 1993’s ‘Both Sides’.

Entirely curated and compiled by Collins himself, his idea for the ‘Take A Look At Me Now’ concept is to examine how his songs have evolved over time, with the majority of the additional content throughout the series focused on live versions of the tracks. By contrasting the original studio versions of the material with later performances, the series demonstrates how Collins’ songs take on a life of their own once they’re freed from the confines of the studio.

The extended versions of the albums will also be completed with carefully selected demos and b-sides.

“I’ve always been quite proud of my demos and have often made them available as B-sides, but with a few exceptions, I have avoided including those on these collections,” says Collins. “Instead, I’ve focused on how nicely the songs developed when played on stage, rather than showing how they originated.”

Each album in the series will be remastered by Nick Davis, who earned a Grammy nomination for Best Surround Sound album for his work on the Genesis ‘1970-1975’ box set. Davis has also worked on all of the Genesis retrospective reissues.

Phil Collins Both SidesThe remaining six albums of Collins’ solo discography will follow in the coming months. They also feature a bold new artwork concept in which Collins’ has recreated his poses from the original album covers with new photography that was shot in the present day.

Initially released shortly after Collins’ 30th birthday, ‘Face Value’ was propelled to international multi-Platinum status with the help of the smash hit single ‘In The Air Tonight’. Other notable tracks on the album include the follow-up singles ‘I Missed Again’ and ‘If Leaving Me Is Easy’, as well as ‘Behind The Lines’ which was written with Collins’ Genesis colleagues Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford.

1993’s ‘Both Sides’ shares a similarly introspective atmosphere to ‘Face Value’, and features the Top 10 hit ‘Both Sides of the Story’ as well as further singles in the shape of ‘Everyday’ and ‘We Wait And We Wonder’.

The albums in the series will be available on a series of formats. The 2CD digipak and digital versions feature the remastered album and the additional content, and the 180 gram heavyweight audiophile vinyl format (single LP for ‘Face Value’ / double LP for ‘Both Sides’) features the remastered album as a stand-alone product. CD and vinyl box sets will also be available which compile both ‘Face Value’ and ‘Both Sides’ together with space to complete the collection as the rest of the series is released.

Further plans that will tie-in with the reissue series will be announced imminently.

Today we decided to create a new product for you. It’s round and flat and it would appear to emit noises when placed carefully in a CD player. We have therefore concluded that this product, is an audio CD.

Five Tracks Live by Mama

On the front, it features our band logo with the name MAMA in big, capital letters. Underneath the logo are some colourful little pictograms that remind us of the British supergroup, Genesis.

Sandwiched between the band logo and those funny little Genesis-esque icons, there are words. The words appear to be a track listing. There are ten items in the list. Strangely though, the story doesn’t end there. You see, the first item in the list is Duke Suite, which isn’t a song. Following Duke Suite, we have Behind The Lines, Duchess, Guide Vocal and Turn It On Again. These are most definitely tracks that the CD contains for your listening pleasure. So it’s fair to say that the first half of the CD contains a list of what looks like five tracks, made up of four tracks, but are actually one big track.

On the second half of the CD, again sandwiched between the Mama logo and the pretty graphics below, lies another list of five tracks. All of these are indeed genuine tracks. But again, we’ve sown the seeds of confusion because two of those songs, namely Many Too Many and Musical Box are performed by Mama as a continuous track. A single track if you like. So the list of five becomes four. The remaining tracks are No Son of Mine, Spectral Mornings and Afterglow.

I hate maths!

This is where it gets extremely confusing. We even had to bring in our resident maths teacher Dave, to help us with our sums. It turns out that our new product can thus be scientifically described in the following way:

((5-1)/4)+(3+(2-1)) = Five Tracks Live

That my friends, is how you make a bunch of CDs you already printed containing nine tracks, into an album called Five Tracks Live! Make no mistake; ALL of these tracks are recorded live, even if we’re not really sure just how many there are!

NEXT SHOW: The Musician, Leicester!

Mama at The Musician, LeicesterMama, to perform An Evening of Genesis Music at The Musician, Leicester!

Hello…. Remember us?

Well after quite a long break from shows we are back with a bang at a new venue for us, namely The Musician in Leicester. Tickets have already gone really well for this show and according to the promoter we have the best advance sales for May. We will be playing the famous “Duke Suite” at this and indeed our next show after The Musician, which is at our old haunt The Theatre On The Steps in Bridgnorth. That venue has also reported great advance ticket sales which are up on last time and don’t forget we sold that venue out last year. Great to see such interest in keeping Genesis music alive by the tribute bands who perform it. We just need a team of Sherpa’s to help us up the dreaded 120 steps at Bridgnorth… Any offers?

Legends of Rock 2016

We had a great time at 2015 Legends Of Rock Festival back in March and are proud to announce that due to the reaction of the crowd there we have once again been invited back for 2016. More details as soon as we have them.

You can also watch this video on YouTube if you prefer.

Genesis, ex members, hits & other ditties

We have started work on another element of our show to hopefully delight Genesis fans, which means Mama are currently learning some of the ex-Genesis members solo hits such as In The Air Tonight, Sledgehammer, All I Need Is A Miracle, The Living Years, Big Time and many others to create a “Genesis hits” set. We will premier this set at our second night in Kinross after we play a totally “Prog Genesis” set the night before. We are also learning a brand new song for this as well as re-introducing a couple of songs we have stopped playing, so lots of rehearsals at this moment in time. Lets us know what “hits” you think we could incorporate in the comments section below or on our Facebook page.

The DVD & Live CD

We keep getting asked about the CD and DVD release we promised last year. Work is still ongoing. We basically want to get it right for when you hand over your hard earned cash for it which hopefully explains the delay. Watch this space!

Hope to see you at a Mama show soon. 🙂

The final show of 2014 is upon us. Thanks to all who came to The Met in Bury for making that a truly memorable night for the band. This weekend we are at The Trades in Rotherham. Tickets are selling well and the venue have advised us that they do tend to get a lot of people wishing to pay on the door on the night of the show so please get there early if you are thinking of attending. Better still, book your tickets in advance right now! You can book tickets on the WeGotTickets website.

Roll on 2015!

Looking forward to 2015, it looks like a great year for Genesis fans with Mike & The Mechanics touring and now Steve Hackett has announced his 2015 tour. Full details of these tours can be found on the Mike & The Mechanics website along with the Steve Hackett website. For our part, 2014 has been a great year for the band and 2015 looks like being an even better one with return shows booked at The Citadel (St. Helens), The Met (Bury), Theatre On The Steps (Bridgnorth), The Cavern (Liverpool) and many more venues. Also we are spreading our wings with some shows in Essex, Sussex, Scotland and a new Newcastle venture. We have some new Genesis songs in the pipeline which we know you are going to love so keep an eye on the site. A live CD and our long awaited DVD / Blu-ray Disc will be released next year too.

Delving into the video archive, here’s Mama performing Duchess at Thornton Little Theatre, 2014:

New guitarist? Old guitarist?

Some news we can announce is that Mark has decided he loves playing Genesis music so much he is unable to tear himself away from the band so he will be staying with us for 2015. We are thrilled at this news.

We know that the reason you guys enjoy what we do is that you are Genesis fans first and foremost and that always helps when the hours are long and we get home at 4:00am after a show. We are fans playing for fans and the response you all give us, not just by coming to the shows but by the many messages on our Facebook page and support in Genesis forums makes it all worth while. Thanks to you guys for allowing us to continue.

A very Perry thank you!

Last but not least we wanted to say another thank you to our ex-bassist Dave Perry for all that he did for us during his time with the band. Thanks matey!

Happy Christmas and all the very best for 2015 from all of us here at Mama HQ!

Latest Interview With John W!

John Wilkinson - Mama Genesis Tribute BandMama, the UK’s all era Genesis tribute band interviews John W

Well so much has gone on in the past eleven months that we thought it was high time to drag another interview from John W. Here he discusses the change in venues that the band are currently appearing at and the complexities of putting on a Mama show and making a film!

Don’t forget, Saturday night (26th April) the band will be performing at the O2 Academy, Sheffield. You can buy tickets from the O2 Academy website. On with the interview….

Mama Website: Hi John!

John W: Hello there.

MW: So what’s been happening in the time since we last interviewed you?

JW: An awful lot (laughs)! I suppose the first thing to tell you about is the upcoming live DVD / Blu-ray Disc. As most folk know we put on a special free show for the fans who have supported us over the past two years as a sort of thank you to them all. We took the decision to make a DVD of the show and release it, as we keep getting asked at our gigs why we don’t have DVD’s or CD’s for sale.

MW: And why don’t you have DVD’s or CD’s for sale then?

JW: Good question. The main reason is that we wanted to ensure that the standard of playing was up to it and I know that we are now playing these songs better than ever. It is an obvious thing to say but the more you play together as a band the tighter and better you get. Also another thing was that we wanted the lights sorting out before we tried to film a show and thanks to Dave and Jules input, we now have a great light show.

MW: Yeah I remember you saying about that the last time we spoke. Was that a challenge then?

JW: You would have to ask Dave and Jules for that because they put all the work in. No seriously, Dave rigged all the lights, designed the way it would look and then programmed the scenes for each song into the computer. Jules then had to learn all about setting up lights at shows and how to work the computer at shows. Both of them have done superbly well in my opinion.
