Mama at The Lion Quays Hotel

Mama Genesis at The Lion Quays Hotel OswestryMama to perform their 2017 tour show at The Lion Quays Hotel & Spa, Oswestry!

Well 2017 got off to a cracking start with two very well attended shows in Chester and Liverpool. We had a fantastic time performing for you at both The Forum Theatre and The Cavern and we are in the process of booking a show back in Chester for 2018. The Cavern has already booked us for 2018 and details are now on our shows page.

Thanks to everyone who made the trip out to see us both in Chester and Liverpool on what turned out to be very cold nights! We do appreciate it very much.

On with this weeks news….

Tim Rothwell drummer with Mama GenesisA New Drummer

We are thrilled to announce that we have found the replacement for James on the drum stool. Step forward Tim Rothwell (ex “SeYes” drummer). Tim really impressed us at auditions and we offered him the role almost at once. Thankfully he said yes and his first show is planned for the first night at New Brighton Floral Hall on Friday 3rd March 2017.

James will retake the drum stool for the “hits” set on Saturday 4th March 2017 however, which will be his final planned show with Mama. Of course it goes without saying that we wish James all the very best for the future. Mama wouldn’t have been the success it is without him. It is highly likely he may decide to join us for some double drum madness in the future….

The Lion Quays Return!

The next show for us is this Saturday (4th February 2017) at The Lion Quays Hotel & Spa complex in Oswestry. We hope you can join us there for what promises to be a fairly unique show. Why? Well, we plan on having a bit of an unplanned set list. Planning the unplanned, you might say. There’ll be chance for the audience to have their say with requests and we may or may not throw in some tracks we haven’t performed for a while. View full article »

Today we decided to create a new product for you. It’s round and flat and it would appear to emit noises when placed carefully in a CD player. We have therefore concluded that this product, is an audio CD.

Five Tracks Live by Mama

On the front, it features our band logo with the name MAMA in big, capital letters. Underneath the logo are some colourful little pictograms that remind us of the British supergroup, Genesis.

Sandwiched between the band logo and those funny little Genesis-esque icons, there are words. The words appear to be a track listing. There are ten items in the list. Strangely though, the story doesn’t end there. You see, the first item in the list is Duke Suite, which isn’t a song. Following Duke Suite, we have Behind The Lines, Duchess, Guide Vocal and Turn It On Again. These are most definitely tracks that the CD contains for your listening pleasure. So it’s fair to say that the first half of the CD contains a list of what looks like five tracks, made up of four tracks, but are actually one big track.

On the second half of the CD, again sandwiched between the Mama logo and the pretty graphics below, lies another list of five tracks. All of these are indeed genuine tracks. But again, we’ve sown the seeds of confusion because two of those songs, namely Many Too Many and Musical Box are performed by Mama as a continuous track. A single track if you like. So the list of five becomes four. The remaining tracks are No Son of Mine, Spectral Mornings and Afterglow.

I hate maths!

This is where it gets extremely confusing. We even had to bring in our resident maths teacher Dave, to help us with our sums. It turns out that our new product can thus be scientifically described in the following way:

((5-1)/4)+(3+(2-1)) = Five Tracks Live

That my friends, is how you make a bunch of CDs you already printed containing nine tracks, into an album called Five Tracks Live! Make no mistake; ALL of these tracks are recorded live, even if we’re not really sure just how many there are!

An Evening of Genesis Music with Mama at The Brindley, RuncornThe next show?

You can of course secure your copy exclusively at a Mama show near you, which brings me to this weekend. Saturday to be precise! We will be performing our show at The Brindley Arts Complex in Runcorn on Saturday 25th July 2015. Tickets are selling very well for this show, but there are some left so be quick and buy them. They’re for sale on the Brindley website or you can call the box office on 0151 907 8360.

Now I really need a lie down. Maths was never my strong subject!

An Evening of Genesis Music, with MamaDave’s Tour Log – Issue 3 – Mama Mighty Heroes, May 9th 2015

It’s time for another rather unique rambling from our bass player Dave (or should we call him Red Lantern?). But before we get to that, we’d like to quickly mention our next show.

Saturday 20th June sees us perform at Trading Boundaries, which is somewhere down south (Sheffield Green). It’s the only show that’s anywhere near the south in fact, for the next few months. So if you’re in the area, you need to grab some tickets now. To book, hit the Trading Boundaries website. Tickets are priced at £15.00 & £45.00. Why the steep price you ask? Well we believe that there are two ticket prices – one for a sit down meal and the other just for the show. We know that lots of meal tickets have gone already. In fact, we’re not rightly sure if there are any left. But there are definitely some standing tickets up for sale, so don’t delay.

This is our first venture to this fine venue and we’re really hoping to make a big impact and have a great night with as many fellow Genesis fans as possible. Hope to see you there!

As always, you can find all our latest shows on our gig page. Don’t forget to join our email newsletter on the right hand side so we can let you know when we’re in your area.

Prologue

And so it was that as the sun rose in the eastern sky, to the west a huge symbol emblazoned the letter M onto a white cloud. The Mama signal was a call to arms to five musical super heroes and their side-kicks. Their leader, John W, awoke to the sound of the Mama alarm (clock) ringing in his ears. He picked up his com device (mobile phone) and sent the emergency code text to the members of the team. He had received a request for the team to make haste to Bridgnorth to help the locals in their fight against the forces of Muzak. It was decided that a scouting party would be sent in advance to make a reconnaissance of the area. View full article »

Next Show – LONDON!

The show is on Saturday 21st June 2014 and you can get tickets from the O2 Academy website. Tickets are priced at £18.00. Scotland tour

Those of you following our recent travels will know that we performed two shows in Scotland over the weekend. The first was at The Ferry on the Friday night. This was the first show we’ve performed at this venue and indeed for a Glasgow audience. The band went down very well we think, with several people commenting after the gig how much they enjoyed it.

The second show was performed the very next night at The Green Hotel in Kinross. We had an even better response to our previous show at this venue and our full light show managed to fit into the venue, which is always a plus!

We had lots of good food, good drink and laughed a lot catching up with some old and new friends, so speciall thanks to everyone who came to see the band on either or both nights. Much appreciated.

Audio recordings from Glasgow and Kinross!

We’ve got some audio clips recorded straight from our mixing desk at both The Ferry and The Green Hotel. You can also download them for free to listen to on your iPod or other device.

Here’s the beginning of the show at Glasgow, presented as it happened. First up, Behind The Lines:

Followed by Duchess:

Guide Vocal followed Duchess:

And here is Los Endos, recorded the next night in Kinross:

Don’t forget, tickets are selling fast for our Islington show so get them now. Also, please consider joining our email newsletter on the right hand side and giving us a mention on your Facebook wall using the sharing buttons below.

See you in London!

PS, if you’re in the North West, tickets are now on sale for our upcoming shows at Lowton, Warrington, St Helens and Thornton.

Mama, the UK’s all era Genesis tribute band will perform their 2013 tour show at TheWinding Wheel, Chesterfield.

That’s right, it’s only two days to the next Mama show at The Winding Wheel in Chesterfield. Saturday 6th July 2013 you could be basking in the awesome music of Genesis so what are you waiting for? Get your tickets now before they all go!

As promised a while back, we’ve been busy working on the audio and video clips we recorded back in March 2013 at our Prog Rock Celebration show at The Rose Club in Hindley. The video clips of StillMarillion, Manc Floyd and Mama are not ready yet, but we do have some great audio to share with you.

The Winding WheelBelow is an audio recording taken straight from our front of house sound desk at the gig. Whilst desk recordings don’t give a good, accurate representation of what the band sounded like on the night, these recordings are pretty good. So, if you’re thinking of buying tickets for Chesterfield on Saturday, this will tell you everything you need to know about how the band sounds. We hope you enjoy the clip and if you’d like more, we have posted a couple of different tracks from the same show on our exclusive content page. Find it here.

As always, we’d love to hear your comments below and please share this post on your Facebook wall or Twitter account using the sharing buttons at the bottom.  🙂

Here’s Duchess / Guide Vocal:

PS One of our Twitter followers just booked tickets and hotels for this show and then posted a unique pre-show drinks guide online. Find it here. A bit bonkers I know, but he’s a Genesis fan so we can’t say we disapprove.  🙂
