Videos From Recent Solihull Show

Mama at The Met, BuryMama, the UK Genesis tribute show, today publishes four new videos taken from their recent Solihull Arts Centre show!

We started writing some huge, long winded website update to publish today, but after numerous edits, re-writes and deletions, we decided that the content actually speaks for itself. So we are going to let it do just that!

Before we get started, we’d just like to mention our next two shows:

Friday 27th November 2015: The Station Tavern, Lytham (This is a free show, meaning no tickets! Just turn up, buy ale, sit back, enjoy! It will feature our new “hits” set list).

Saturday 28th November 2015: The Met, Bury (Back to reality, this is a ticketed show. Get your tickets from The Met website).

Solihull Arts Centre Videos

And now, onto the main content we have for you today. We had a single camera running at Solihull Arts Centre, along with our usual desk and ambience audio recorders. The result is, rather better than we can normally get using this method, so we thought we’d share. No words… just video! Enjoy.  🙂

Don’t forget to crank it up to full HD if you have a fast internet connection!

Don’t forget to leave us a comment below!  🙂

New Video Release – Squonk at Pacific Road!

Mama at Pacific Road Arts Centre, 23rd March 2012 – Squonk

We will keep the words to a minimum here, save only to remind you to get your tickets for the upcoming Mama show at Bolton Albert Halls, Friday 4th May 2012. It’s going to be a scorching show!

As always, we’d love a share on your Facbook wall using the buttons below! 🙂

On the 23rd March, Mama performed their first ever show. We’d like to share a great review from the Congleton Chronical with you.

“Tribute bands come and go, and indeed the whole tribute scene seems to be slowing down, but those paying homage to the big prog bands still seem to draw the crowds. Maybe it’s because of the general inactivity of the real thing, and indeed, Genesis remain a sleeping dinosaur. We 50 year-old men live in hope but in the meantime, “Mama” are a very acceptable alternative on a Friday night. In Birkenhead.

Rising like a phoenix from the ashes of the now defunct “Face Value”, one of the most successful and long-lasting Genesis tributes, this was their very first show, and the next to last concert to be held at the Pacific Arts Centre, a fantastic 800-capacity venue in Beirut Birkenhead. It’s council-owned, hence why it’s shutting. The last show, the night after, was by a Rush tribute, so my first paragraph refers.

Tonight’s gig was a treat for Genesis fans of all eras, and indeed, that’s part of the bands marketing, and even a Gabriel number and Steve Hackett instrumental were thrown in for good measure, the latter rather more successful and actually a highlight of the setlist, along with “Mama” itself, opening the second half, “Domino” (closing the first), and a jolly fine stab at the “In the cage” medley, including the “Cinema show” section that invariably sets my spine vibrating.

Similarly, the closing section of “The musical box” was awesome, and would carry even more impact if segued onto something else, as Genesis themselves often did. Indeed, as the band grows in confidence, its own, unique medley arrangement should not be a task beyond their undoubted talents. Despite some first-night nerves, the musicianship was first-class, as it has to be not only to be anything like a “tribute” to the original masterclass act, but also to satisfy those sad 50-yearold blokes I mentioned, like me, who know every note and make mental notes of any missed.

A particular nod of respect to the drummer who was as relaxed as Phil himself and added his own personality as well as paying respect to the original arrangement. Class. These boys will only get better — and bigger — and the first gigs already include an ambitious date at the Albert Halls in Bolton, but rather closer (and cosier) is the Box in Crewe on Saturday, 19th May. Treat yourself.”

Thanks to Andy Banks / Congleton Chronical for allowing us to reproduce their review in its entirety.

Mama Launch Weekend – Thanks all!

John W - Pacific Road Mama Launch GigEvening all!  (as JW would say)  🙂

As the Mama launch weeked draws to a close, we’d like to pass our thanks on to everyone who came to see our shows at Pacific Road Arts Centre in Birkenhead and Stoney Stanton Social Club in, er, Stoney Stanton! We really cannot tell you how much it means to the band to have two amazing crowds, having never played a gig before as a band. The atmosphere you lot created was truly electric!

Also, we’d like to thanks Steve & Neil from Moonshooter who promoted the Pacific Road gig and Jim and his team at Stoney Stanton who pulled an amazing attendance out of the hat. Don’t forget to keep your eye on the Ultimate Set List Live and Stoney Stanton Social Club websites for some great live events happening in your area.

The Mama Facebook page has been buzzing with feedback from lots of people and we’ve received countless emails telling us what a great time everyone had watching the band. Here’s a selection of your feedback:

“Mama, The All Era Genesis Tribute Band Review.

From the smoldering embers of Face Value, one of the best ever Genesis tribute bands has emerged.

There are no gimmicks, costumes or masks just 5 talented musicians doing what they do best….entertaining their fans.

The backbone of the band needs no introduction. John W, the authentic lead vocalist who sounds more like Phil Collins everyday, Chris O, whose guitar solos make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end and the modest John C on keyboards who at times appears embarrassed to be gifted with such ability.

“And then there were 3” are joined by James, the young enthusiastic acoustic drummer who was clearly loving every second of the performance and Mark on Bass who has added a new dimension to the sound.

The “Mama” family also consists of new professional sound man, Andrew, lighting by way of the always reliable Kev and backup from Dave. Then, of course, are the devoted and loyal fans that will travel all over the country to share in the “Mama” experience.

Yesterday was their first gig in Birkenhead after months of rehearsals to integrate the new members and to learn new songs. The hard work has paid dividends with a slick show that swiftly moved from one song to another seamlessly and during the performance each band member had the opportunity to perform individually to great effect. It is unlikely that Genesis will ever reform but if they have the opportunity to see this band perform they will realise their legacy is in safe hands.

Enjoy Stoney Stanton and beyond.”
