Darren first picked up the guitar in the mid 80’s when he was blown away by the sound and playing style of Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits days). Darren’s influences also include Joe Satriani, Steve Lukather, John Petrucci, Andy Summers, Dominic Miller, Phil Palmer and obviously Daryl Stuermer.
Progressive Folk? That really exists?!?!
His first band outing was with a band called Lyngua Franca which played venues around the Cheshire area covering Pink Floyd, ZZ Top and Dire Straits etc. In 2003 an opportunity came up to join ambient, progressive, folk rock band Silver Dogs which had real success in the folk rock world. After 8 years, Silver Dogs called it a day and Darren moved over into studio session work.
And now…. Mama!
In 2016 a new challenge came up where he was asked to join Mama which he says is a dream come true to be performing the music of Genesis and to recreate the sounds and playing of Rutherford, Hackett and Stuermer.
