Mama at Holmfirth PicturedromeRemember us?

Hi everyone! First of all many, many thanks for all the support you have given us during the past few difficult months. For the first time we had to postpone a series of shows due to John our keyboard wizard having to be at his son Dan’s bedside after Dan was critically injured in a motor cycle accident in Australia last June. It was touch and go for a long while but we are pleased to say that Dan is slowly recovering from this ordeal and John is back home.

Updated date sheet

The shows we postponed have been re-arranged as per the updated date sheet and we are still working hard to get the ones we have not been able to do this year sometime in 2018.

A new guitarist

We also have some news about our guitarist Darren. Sadly, Darren has chosen to leave the band sometime this year due to family and work commitments. We of course wish him the very best and it has been a pleasure to have him in Mama. Thanks for all your hard work matey and good luck from all of us.

His replacement was closer to hand than we thought. Step forward Eddie Devlin! Eddie is the guitarist in the original band The Swan Chorus that Dave and John W are members of. He jumped at the chance to join Mama and is working hard to make the transition seamless. We expecting his first show to be at The Old Courts in Wigan in October and he is chomping at the bit to show you what he can do. For those who want a taste of his ability, have a look at this video on YouTube:

We will be back in the rehearsal rooms soon and are looking at some new songs to freshen up our set list. Thanks again for sticking with us. We really so appreciate it.

Regards, JW.

Videos From Recent Solihull Show

Mama at The Met, BuryMama, the UK Genesis tribute show, today publishes four new videos taken from their recent Solihull Arts Centre show!

We started writing some huge, long winded website update to publish today, but after numerous edits, re-writes and deletions, we decided that the content actually speaks for itself. So we are going to let it do just that!

Before we get started, we’d just like to mention our next two shows:

Friday 27th November 2015: The Station Tavern, Lytham (This is a free show, meaning no tickets! Just turn up, buy ale, sit back, enjoy! It will feature our new “hits” set list).

Saturday 28th November 2015: The Met, Bury (Back to reality, this is a ticketed show. Get your tickets from The Met website).

Solihull Arts Centre Videos

And now, onto the main content we have for you today. We had a single camera running at Solihull Arts Centre, along with our usual desk and ambience audio recorders. The result is, rather better than we can normally get using this method, so we thought we’d share. No words… just video! Enjoy.  🙂

Don’t forget to crank it up to full HD if you have a fast internet connection!

Don’t forget to leave us a comment below!  🙂

New Mama Trailer / Promo Video

Mama Genesis Tribute Show at The Green Hotel, KinrossMama, the UK’s all era Genesis tribute band today releases a new promo video, soundcheck recorded track and radio interview. Busy day!

We’ve got a fair bit of news and content in today’s news post!

First up, we’ve been playing around with the video footage we shot a while back at our Bacup show. As you may recall, we shot this show on four HD cameras with the intention of creating a saleable DVD and Blu-ray Disc. We’re not quite there yet with the final product, but we have got a sneak preview which we created to promote our next two shows.

You can also watch this video on YouTube.

Kinross 2015

Speaking of which, you can catch the band in a Mama first on the weekend of the 25th & 26th September 2015. It’s a first because we will be performing two shows back to back. It’s also unique because one of those shows will be dedicated to the hits and other great songs that were produced not just by Genesis, but also by Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett and Mike & The Mechanics.

Rain Down

As if that wasn’t enough news for you, we’re going to throw in a new track you can listen to below. This track was recorded during the sound check at our last show in Thornton. It’ll no doubt feature on the Saturday night in Kinross.

Now you’re thinking, that’s everything right? Wrong. Shortly before our Hull show (North Ferriby), JW was asked for an interview by Andy Fea (a presenter on Beverly FM). If you’ve been following Mama for a long time, you may recall Andy interviewing JW at Tribfest one year (listen to it here). We got hold of a copy of this new interview and of course, you can stream it from our website to listen to it.

Local to Kinross or Scotland?

That’s pretty much it for this news post. If you’re in the Kinross area and you fancy coming down to see the band perform on one night, the other night or both nights, we’d love to see you there. You can get tickets from the Mundell Music website.

If you are NOT in the Kinross area or even in Scotland, might we suggest a weekend away? The Green Hotel is a great place to stay, central for golfers, serves stunning food and has Mama on all weekend to keep everyone entertained. Not to mention, we’ll be staying over ourselves, so you can help us keep the Genesis spirit going through the early hours by joining us in the bar!

So, if you haven’t already signed up for our email newsletter (so we can send you information like you’re reading here) then do so on our Newsletter page. Feel free to leave your comments below, telling us what you thought of the new promo video (it’s a work in progress, so we are looking for cool suggestions). That’s all for now. We hope to see some of you in Kinross.

NEXT SHOW: Brookside Theatre, Romford

Dave Mama Website BioAn evening of Genesis music with Mama, comes to The Brookside Theatre, Romford!

Hello all! It’s Sunday night which means we’ve just about recovered from our show at The Cavern this weekend. What a show it was! We broke records with a sellout crowd which along with our first show of 2015 in Chester the week before, gives us a great start to 2015. Thanks to everyone who came to see us at these shows. Spending your hard earned money on our show is really appreciated and we hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did!

So what’s next for Mama? Well, we will be visiting Essex. Specifically, on Saturday 21st February, we’ll be at The Brookside Theatre in Romford. This is a first visit to the venue for us, so we are hoping to capitalise on our recent numbers and pull a good crowd, so that we can visit again in 2016. If you’re in the area, tell us you already got your tickets?

Quiet Man Dave Speaks Out!

We thought he would quietly sit back and be content playing his bass but oh no, after Chester and Liverpool, he’s dying to have his say on our website! So without further ado, I’ll hand you over. This is bass man Jones, telling it his way:

An Evening of Genesis Music with MamaHello everyone!

It’s been almost six months since I joined the band and I have had such a fantastic time. From my first gig in Blackburn I have been knocked out by the reaction from the audience to our performances. This, combined with selling out our first two shows of 2015, shows that there is a huge desire out there for quality live music and there is no doubt that the music of Genesis is of the very highest quality.

I am often asked which is my favourite piece to play live? The honest answer is that it changes with every gig. From the Morse code-like bass line of Land of Confusion to the hypnotic riff of Carpet Crawlers, from the complex intricate patterns of In The Cage to the laid back groove of Misunderstanding – it’s all good stuff!

Other questions I have been asked include….

Why do you play the bass with your thumb? Over the years I have used a plectrum, I have used my fingers and more recently my thumb, like Sting who favoured that technique. I tend to vary the way I play depending on which Genesis song it is and how bad the blister is on my thumb!

Which strings do you use? Roundwound Rotosound longscale steel bass strings – worth every penny.

Four string or five string? I have a five string bass but tend not to use it. I can get all the sounds I need with the four string combined with the bass pedals. But I am on the lookout for a double neck!

Favourite bass players? Too many to list but any list would include Mike Rutherford (obviously!), Chris Squire, Paul McCartney, Geddy Lee, Jaco Pastorius, Scott LaFaro, Stanley Clarke, Carol Kaye, Geezer Butler and James Jamerson.

The band was ecstatic after our Cavern Club gig and now we are looking forward to a trip to The Brookside Theatre, Romford in Essex on Saturday, 21st February. A week later and we are in Bolton at the Roundhouse where we are hoping to introduce even more ‘new’ pieces into our set. If you have been to our Facebook page you will have seen mobile phone footage of our recent rehearsals so you’ll know which songs I am referring to!

Prefer to watch this video on YouTube? Go HERE.

We think our show is of great quality and if the feedback on our Facebook page is anything to go by, so do you! However to make it work, we have to sell as many tickets as possible. This means we need to spread the word as far and as fast as possible, to all Genesis and live music fans. Can I urge you to get in touch if you can help promote the band’s gigs?

I’m really looking forward to all our concerts in 2015 and if you come along to watch please have a word after the show. We enjoying discussing all things Genesis with you. We are fans of the music just as you are and our aim is to keep this music alive.

Best wishes
Dave – the new boy!

That just about wraps up our latest news. We’ve still got some more video to post from our Chester show. Just haven’t yet had chance to sift through it all to look for the best bits. Maybe tomorrow eh? In the meantime, head over to The Brookside Theatre website and grab your tickets for an evening of Genesis music on Saturday 21st February. We’ll do our very best to make it worth your while. 🙂

An Evening of Genesis Music with Mama

World Tour of Scotland In Two Days!

Mama live at The Ferry, GlasgowMama, the UK’s all era Genesis tribute band would like to invite everyone for a holiday in Scotland!

Okay, it’s probably not a holiday if you already live in sunny Scotland, but it’s a great way to spend the weekend away with friends, soaking up the sights and partying to Genesis in the evenings.

So we have two shows for you. First, it’s The Ferry in Glasgow on Friday 23rd May 2014. The band has never played this venue before, so we are hoping for a great turnout. Our friends StillMarillion have been helping out with promotion and they tell us they’re pretty gutted they can’t come to see us because they’re out doing a show of their own. You can buy tickets for The Ferry from TicketSoup (search for “MAMA – A Tribute to Genesis”) or by calling the box office direct on 01698 360 085.

Mama, live at The Green Hotel, Kinross

The second show we have for you is the very next night, hence this weekend will now be known as “The Mama World Tour Of Scotland In Two Days!” The band played The Green Hotel in Kinross last year and had a great time. We did the show with a massively cut down lighting rig due to a misunderstanding with the venue on the use of smoke and their smoke detectors. This year, we’re planning on putting the whole light show into the venue for maximum Genesis revellery! You can buy tickets for this show from WeGotTickets (looks like there are 12 left at this time) or calling the box office on 01577 863 467.

Last Show KeyboardCam

Were you at our last show at Theatre On The Steps, Bridgnorth? Did you help us carry gear into and out of the venue? If not, why not? We only just recovered! Regardless of whether you assisted with the get in or just came to see the show, here’s some video from our “KeyboardCam” which we attached to the top of one of the keyboards to show our very own JC playing a section from In The Cage Medley. We hope you enjoy it.
