Holiday Over, Next Shows Up!

JW and Steve HackettMama to perform their 2013 tour show in Shaw and Newcastle

After a longish break from shows so that we could grab a holiday and catch up with the real world, we are excited to finally count down the last few days to two hotly anticipate shows in our 2013 gig list. First up is Friday night at Playhouse 2 in Shaw, near Oldham.

Playhouse 2 is a favourite venue of ours because we’ve had a great crowd in the past. A great crowd makes for a great gig. In fact, we sold out last time so if you’re thinking of coming down to this show, book your tickets now. Right now!

Tickets for Playhouse 2 are available on the We Got Tickets website (right now there’s only 19 left on the website!) and also from the box office which is hidden away in Interiors (a shop) just around the corner. You can contact Kirsty at Interiors on 01706 840 400. Here’s the details:

Friday 22nd November 2013 – Playhouse 2, Shaw

Ticket price: £12.00

2012 A Year In Review

Christmas? A Birthday? Or both?

It’s Christmas and the band is officially turning one year old! A mere year has gone by and we’ve racked up a steady 16 gigs in 10 counties, selling over 1,800 tickets. We’ve released 17 different videos on our Vimeo Channel and had 144 excellent comments on our website. We’ve picked up 1,300 likes on our Facebook page and our discussion forum has seen people discussing the band and Genesis themselves all year round. On Twitter we’ve had an excellent run, gaining over 1,000 followers from all over the world. In short, 2012 was a great year for the band thanks to you.

2013 beckons for Genesis fans everywhere

If 2012 was the year that the band was put together and built into a full show, 2013 is going to be the year we build our audiences and bring the show to new people. We’ve made significant investments in our sound equipment, our videos, merchandise lines, our promotion and of course put in a lot of work to perfect our set list over 2012, which we will be adding to for 2013. We also intend on building our light show to compliment the bands performance for 2013 and we have several new Genesis pieces in the pipeline to refresh the setlist. So, exciting times ahead! Mama, the UKs ‘all era’ Genesis tribute band would like to announce several new shows for 2013.

Quick shout out for this Friday night (2nd November 2012); you can still buy tickets for our Skipton show! Get them on this very website in fact! Click here.

Saturday 9th February 2013 we will be returning to the venue of our second ever gig at Stoney Stanton Social Club, Stoney Stanton. Those who remember our first trip to this venue will tell you we had a great audience and hence a great gig! It might not be so sunny this time around though!

You can contact the venue for tickets on 01455 272 492 or visit the Stoney Stanton Social Club website.

Friday 1st March 2013 sees Mama performing at the world famous Cavern Club, Liverpool. I’m sure The Cavern needs no introduction, being the spiritual home of The Beatles. This gig should prove to be a rocking night! You can contact The Cavern box office on 0151 236 9091. Their website is www.cavernclub.org.

Genesis Tribute Band Mama to Play Cavern

Saturday 16th March 2013 we’ve put a show in Yardbirds Rock Club. After Tribfest 2012 we had a lot of interest in the Hull and Grimsby area so we felt it only fair to try and find a venue over that way. This will be the first time Mama have performed in this venue so we are hoping for a good turnout. Tickets are available from Yardbirds Rock Club on 07771 520 374. Alternatively, they sell tickets from a number of other places which are detailed on their website; www.yardbirdsrocks.co.uk.

A special thanks must go out to everyone who attended our Playhouse 2 sellout show in Shaw. Thanks everyone for coming down and helping us celebrate the music of Genesis. Here’s some video footage of the band performing Spectral Mornings at this venue and if you haven’t already gone out and bought Steve Hackett’s new album, Genesis Revisited II, why not? It’s a great album and we highly recommend it! Buy it now!

Hope you enjoy the video. Why not let us know what you think of it on our forum?

We Can't Dance - Album CoverWe Can’t Dance at Mama HQ either!

We’ve not updated the website for a while, so we thought we’d go hunting on the Mama Forum for some interesting conversation and we came upon We Can’t Dance.

Did you know?

Genesis recorded We Can’t Dance as their 14th and last studio album before Phil Collins left the band. Even though this is the last Collins studio album, it’s that old you could buy it on shiny new CD, double LP and cassette. Remember cassettes? 🙂

Success In The 90s

The album reached No.1 in the UK and it stayed in the charts for a total of 61 weeks. Hits for Genesis taken from this album include; I Can’t Dance, Jesus He Knows Me, No Son Of Mine and Hold On My Heart. The previous album released by Genesis was the internationally successful Invisible Touch.

As you’re probably already aware, Collins spent a lot of the 90s singing about failed relationships, yet Since I Lost You isn’t about a failed marriage or relationship. Anyone know what it was about?

Touring The World Once Again

Genesis toured during the summer of 1992 to support and promote the We Can’t Dance album. They did 55 concerts in total, 15 of which were here in the UK. Most of this tour is documented on The Longs and The Shorts albums. This was the last time Phil Collins was to appear live on stage as the lead singer of Genesis until the reunion tour of 2007.

Not a lot of people know that! Why not join the discussion over on the Mama Forum? We’d love to hear your views about all things Genesis and hear your stories. See you over there!  🙂
