Interview with a Genesis tribute band

Hi folks!

On the back of our most recent show at Huntingdon Hall, Worcester, we were asked to do a radio interview back stage for a local radio station. The station kindly shared the audio with us, so we can present it here on our website. Hope you enjoy listening to it!

In other news, this weekend (Saturday 8th April 2017) we were asked by Bilton Working Mens Club to come and perform our show at their venue, so we decided that’s exactly what we are going to do. You can get tickets for the show, from the venue.

And finally, we have a survey for you. As you are probably aware, Mama is a group of like minded Genesis fans that want to celebrate the music of Genesis and we do this by putting shows together. We are having such a great time meeting people throughout the UK who are equally as into Genesis as we are, so it’s logical that we should “ask the audience” for their input into what is essentially, a Genesis party.

So this is your chance to have your say. The survey should only take you a couple of minutes, if that. Thanks for your support.

The survey is available here: www.surveymonkey.co.uk

Mama at The Lion Quays Hotel

Mama Genesis at The Lion Quays Hotel OswestryMama to perform their 2017 tour show at The Lion Quays Hotel & Spa, Oswestry!

Well 2017 got off to a cracking start with two very well attended shows in Chester and Liverpool. We had a fantastic time performing for you at both The Forum Theatre and The Cavern and we are in the process of booking a show back in Chester for 2018. The Cavern has already booked us for 2018 and details are now on our shows page.

Thanks to everyone who made the trip out to see us both in Chester and Liverpool on what turned out to be very cold nights! We do appreciate it very much.

On with this weeks news….

Tim Rothwell drummer with Mama GenesisA New Drummer

We are thrilled to announce that we have found the replacement for James on the drum stool. Step forward Tim Rothwell (ex “SeYes” drummer). Tim really impressed us at auditions and we offered him the role almost at once. Thankfully he said yes and his first show is planned for the first night at New Brighton Floral Hall on Friday 3rd March 2017.

James will retake the drum stool for the “hits” set on Saturday 4th March 2017 however, which will be his final planned show with Mama. Of course it goes without saying that we wish James all the very best for the future. Mama wouldn’t have been the success it is without him. It is highly likely he may decide to join us for some double drum madness in the future….

The Lion Quays Return!

The next show for us is this Saturday (4th February 2017) at The Lion Quays Hotel & Spa complex in Oswestry. We hope you can join us there for what promises to be a fairly unique show. Why? Well, we plan on having a bit of an unplanned set list. Planning the unplanned, you might say. There’ll be chance for the audience to have their say with requests and we may or may not throw in some tracks we haven’t performed for a while. View full article »

Mama at Huntingdon HallGenesis tribute band Mama publishes two free downloads!

We have another website update for you today, again written by John W (because our webmaster is rather busy at the moment). Take it away JW….

Hi again Genesis fans! Hope you are all fit and well.

Since last our last website update we played two superb venues, namely Lion Quays in Oswestry and Huntington Hall in Worcester. The band enjoyed both shows but sadly I was recovering from a chest infection at Lion Quays so wasn’t on top form. The band had to ply me with iced water to get me through the shows. Just to clarify something while we on the subject of Lion Quays, ALL our two night shows at one venue will follow the following format:

  • Friday night will be the Genesis “Prog Rock” set which means two and a half hours of Genesis’s longer Prog songs.
  • Saturday night will be the “Hits” set which means two and a half hours of the hits of Genesis, Phil Collins, Mike And the Mechanics and Peter Gabriel.

The only exception to this in 2016 is our show at The Brindley in Runcorn where we have been requested for the “Hits” set.

Huntington Hall was a great venue and a first for us as it was an old church complete with pulpit, pews and a huge church organ. I resisted the temptation to sing Jesus He Knows Me from the pulpit however. We have been booked back for both venues for 2017.

Next shows

The next two shows are at The Waterside Arts Centre in Sale on 26th March and The Slade Rooms in Wolverhampton on 2nd April. The Waterside is half sold out already and we have a very special guest for the Slade Rooms show; The John Hackett Band!

Today we have a couple of new songs for you to hear. Well, when we write “new” we mean you may not heard us play them before (unless you came to one of the shows this year). Both of these audio recordings came from our mixing console at the Huntingdon Hall show. Dukes Travels & Dukes End (no we have not forgotten about the Duke Album) is first up:

Our new version of Los Endos with a little bit of Supper’s Ready cunningly glued on at the end is next:

Jules charity fundraising

In other news, our very own lighting extraordinaire Jules is still raising money for Cancer Research UK. As some of you may know, she normally has short hair and she thinks the worst thing she can possibly do with her hair isn’t shave it all off, but grow it long. Apparently, it looks most amusing when it’s grown long. So if you want to support a great cause (and keep tabs on her progress by way of funny pictures she posts), head over to her JustGiving page and make a donation. It doesn’t matter how large or how small your donation. It all goes to an amazing charity that is bent on ending the scourge that is Cancer, once and for all.

Hope to see you at a show soon!

New Mama Trailer / Promo Video

Mama Genesis Tribute Show at The Green Hotel, KinrossMama, the UK’s all era Genesis tribute band today releases a new promo video, soundcheck recorded track and radio interview. Busy day!

We’ve got a fair bit of news and content in today’s news post!

First up, we’ve been playing around with the video footage we shot a while back at our Bacup show. As you may recall, we shot this show on four HD cameras with the intention of creating a saleable DVD and Blu-ray Disc. We’re not quite there yet with the final product, but we have got a sneak preview which we created to promote our next two shows.

You can also watch this video on YouTube.

Kinross 2015

Speaking of which, you can catch the band in a Mama first on the weekend of the 25th & 26th September 2015. It’s a first because we will be performing two shows back to back. It’s also unique because one of those shows will be dedicated to the hits and other great songs that were produced not just by Genesis, but also by Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett and Mike & The Mechanics.

Rain Down

As if that wasn’t enough news for you, we’re going to throw in a new track you can listen to below. This track was recorded during the sound check at our last show in Thornton. It’ll no doubt feature on the Saturday night in Kinross.

Now you’re thinking, that’s everything right? Wrong. Shortly before our Hull show (North Ferriby), JW was asked for an interview by Andy Fea (a presenter on Beverly FM). If you’ve been following Mama for a long time, you may recall Andy interviewing JW at Tribfest one year (listen to it here). We got hold of a copy of this new interview and of course, you can stream it from our website to listen to it.

Local to Kinross or Scotland?

That’s pretty much it for this news post. If you’re in the Kinross area and you fancy coming down to see the band perform on one night, the other night or both nights, we’d love to see you there. You can get tickets from the Mundell Music website.

If you are NOT in the Kinross area or even in Scotland, might we suggest a weekend away? The Green Hotel is a great place to stay, central for golfers, serves stunning food and has Mama on all weekend to keep everyone entertained. Not to mention, we’ll be staying over ourselves, so you can help us keep the Genesis spirit going through the early hours by joining us in the bar!

So, if you haven’t already signed up for our email newsletter (so we can send you information like you’re reading here) then do so on our Newsletter page. Feel free to leave your comments below, telling us what you thought of the new promo video (it’s a work in progress, so we are looking for cool suggestions). That’s all for now. We hope to see some of you in Kinross.

DAVE’S TOUR LOG: Trading Boundaries, Sheffield Green

An Evening of Genesis with Mama @ The Village Hall, North FerribyTwo shows coming up after our Summer break!

The first is a new venue near Hull, namely North Ferriby Village Hall where we have been asked to play by a local promoter who saw us at Tribfest last year. Tickets are going well and we are looking forward to seeing some of the folk who supported us at Tribfest over the last three years there. We decided to have a break from Tribfest this year but we will be returning in 2016. See our EventBrite page for tickets.

The second is a welcome return to a great venue on the Flyde coast namely Thornton Little Theatre. We sold the venue out last time and advance ticket sales are up on last year already so please book now to avoid missing out. This is a great venue with a superb atmosphere. Tickets are available on our Thornton EventBrite booking page.

The Brindley Rocks!

Just have to write a few words about the show at The Brindley in Runcorn, which was one of the best venues we have ever appeared at. Great 400 seater which we 3/4 filled. We (and the promoter) were very happy with that for a first time visit. We have already been booked back for two nights in 2016 and one of these will be our new Genesis Hits show. We did preview that show with a version of Sledgehammer which went down a storm. Considering we had only played it once in rehearsal that was quite a result!

People have asked us about the Genesis Hits show so let us clarify what it is and why we doing it. We realised that as we play longer pieces such as the Duke Suite and Home By The Sea, we missed playing some of the shorter songs we used to play. The idea was born to produce a show were we could play a set of more progressive, longer Genesis songs one night and a set of Hits by Genesis, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel and Mike & The Mechanics the next night. We are going to do this in selected venues in 2016 as well as Kinross this year. Some folk will come both nights and some will pick a night that suits them, which is of course fine.

Also we now have not only a CD on our merchandise stall but some jazzy new T-shirts with an exclusive Genesis design by our very own Mark on guitars.

Dave’s Tour Log Episode 5: TRIBUTE WARS

Episode 5: The Empire Strikes First

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away….

Late into the night the hedgehog looked up from the middle of the road to see the pattern of stars in the sky. A roaring sound came from behind it, followed by a woosh as a huge white object flashed across the sky above. It was the last thing the hedgehog saw as it was squashed by the white van.
